To help control claims costs, Regains offers a progressive and cost effective approach to disability management.  This approach includes: • Early identification of problem files • Active medical case management • Prompt return to work or identification of the need for vocational services • Improved return to work and case closure rates Proactive, quality medical case management services can: Identify the need to match physician specialty with injury severity early in the process.  Minor problems matched with a general practitioner, and more severe injuries matched with the proper specialist, enables medical recovery to be maximized, and expense becomes proportional to treatment required. Counterbalance influences that effect physician treatment and off-work orders.  Without intervention, physicians have only an employee’s version of the job requirements and the employer’s ability to adapt to the work restrictions.  Additionally, without a counterbalance, physicians may occasionally protect themselves with more tests or consultations than are necessary. SAVINGS Active case management can help to reduce or eliminate “doctor shopping, extensive or duplicate tests, duplicate prescription orders, and provide an effective measurement of physical therapy orders. Disability payments will be reduced by promoting the earliest possible return to full time work duties or temporary light work assignments.
